Gothams Win to Extend
Series Lead to 4-2 |
The Brooklyn
Gothams moved to within one game of the Round
2 today, downing the New
York Knickerbockers on the road at Washington
Square Park by a score of 4-1. Gothams right-hander
Leander
Mcnaughton was named player of the game after
a strong outing in which he threw 5 innings of
shutout ball. The win gives the Gothams a 4-2
advantage in the best-of-9 World's Championship
Series.
Tied up with the Knickerbockers in the top of the
fifth inning, the Gothams got a boost from third
baseman Dooley
Hearn. With a runner on 2nd, Hearn saw a 1-2
curveball from Richmond
Pratt and hit a run-scoring single to break
the stalemate and put Brooklyn on top, 1-0.
"We aren't quitting," New York manager said. "Yeah,
the odds are definitely in their favor, but they've
got to earn it."
The next game is set to be played Thursday, October
16th, 1890 at Brooklyn Field. The scheduled starters
for the game are Sam
Coburn for New York and Monroe
Black for Brooklyn.
