Riding the 2-hit performance
of catcher Pinkney
Kearns, the Brooklyn
Bluebirds stopped the visiting New
York Knickerbockers, 8-7, in Game 5 of the
World's Championship Series today. Kearns went 2-4
with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving
in 2 for the Bluebirds, who now lead the best-of-9
series, 3 games to 2.
Ding
Lea's at-bat in the bottom of the eighth
inning was a big one for Brooklyn. Coming to bat
with no one out, runners on 2nd and 3rd and Brooklyn
leading 6-5, the shortstop reached on an error by
the SS, driving in 1 run.
"I like our moxie," said Bluebirds manager .
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at
Brooklyn Field. The scheduled starters for the game
are Sam
Coburn for New York and Leander
McNaughton for Brooklyn.
