Road Win Lifts New York to 2-1 Lead in World Series
When the stakes were high, Catfish Hoff raised his game to match.

The right-handed Hoff turned in a stellar performance in Game 3 of the World's Championship Series today, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the New York Knickerbockers to victory. He allowed 8 hits and struck out 1. The win gave New York a 2-1 lead over the Cincinnati Clothiers in the best-of-7 series.

Russel Fankester aided the New York cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the second. For the game, the second baseman went 1 for 4 with a walk.

"We had a good game plan," Hoff said, "and we were able to execute it."

Game 4 is set to be played tomorrow at North Bend Field in Cincinnati. Slated to start are Karl Harper for the New York Knickerbockers and Gustav Allred for the the Cincinnati Clothiers.
