Road Win Lifts New York to
3-2 Lead in World Series |
Game 5 was big. So was Cookie
Whaley.
The New
York starter rose to the occasion at Dormont
Park today, earning player of the game honors after
leading the Knickerbockers to a crucial 3-1 victory
over the Pittsburgh
Industrials. Whaley threw 9 innings of 7-hit
ball as the Knickerbockers won on the road to seize
a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 World's Series.
Whaley was in the zone all game. He frustrated
Pittsburgh hitters while giving the Knickerbockers 9
innings of quality work. Whaley threw 117 pitches,
allowing 7 hits and getting 3 punchouts.
"There were things that we could've improved upon,"
said Knickerbockers manager , "but all in all, I'm
satisfied with our performance."
Game 6 is scheduled for Tuesday at Washington Square
Park. The scheduled starters for the game are Antonio
Butt for Pittsburgh and Nick
Putnam for New York.
