Detroit Breaks Through for
First Win in World's Series; Now Trails 2-1
|
The Detroit
Wolverines have closed some of the gap between
themselves and the series-leading New
York Knickerbockers, winning 6-2 at State Fair
Grounds today. Wolverines right-hander Carl
Dye was named player of the game after he
threw 9 innings of 6-hit ball. The win cuts the
deficit facing the Wolverines to 2-1 in the
best-of-7 World's Series.
Dutch Eagle
hit a run-scoring triple off Moe
Niemann in the bottom of the fourth, which put
the Wolverines in front, 3-2. Eagle had 1 single, in
addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for
4.
"We won," Eagle told assembled media after the game.
"I guess that's all that really matters."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at State
Fair Grounds in Detroit. The scheduled starters for
the game are Cookie
Whaley for the New York Knickerbockers and Virgil
Hancock for the the Detroit Wolverines.
