The Detroit Wolverines got a great start from 39-year-old left-hander Virgil Hancock, who earned player of the game honors today as Detroit won the contest 4-1 at State Fair Grounds. Hancock threw 9 innings of 7-hit ball in the win, which knotted the best-of-7 series at 2-2.

Hancock was in the zone all game. He frustrated New York hitters while giving the Wolverines 9 innings of quality work. Hancock threw 114 pitches, allowing 7 hits and getting 3 punchouts.

"It feels good to get this one," Hancock told the Detroit Today.

Game 5 is scheduled for tomorrow at State Fair Grounds. The scheduled starters for the game are Cookie Whaley for the New York Knickerbockers and Alvin Liles for the the Detroit Wolverines.
