World Series Game 1 Victory for Bunker and St. Louis
The St. Louis Explorers started the World Series in style today, downing the visiting New York Knickerbockers at Castle Point Field by a score of 4-3 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Explorers right-hander Hampton Bunker was named player of the game after he threw 9 innings of 7-hit ball.

Morris Close aided the St. Louis cause with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the catcher went 1 for 4 with a double.

"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said New York manager .

Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow in St. Louis. The scheduled starters for the game are Lester Howel for the New York Knickerbockers and Orlando Nolan for the the St. Louis Explorers.
