Road Win Lifts New York to 1-0 Lead in World Series
The World Series got off to a quiet start today, with the traveling New York Knickerbockers taking a low-scoring 2-1 win over the host Cincinnati Packers. New York right-hander Hamilton Hoyle was marvelous at Roman Arena and was named player of the game. The Knickerbockers now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Hoyle, a native of Albion, Indiana, was dealing all game. He kept Cincinnati hitters off-balance, while giving the Knickerbockers 9 quality innings. Hoyle threw 118 pitches, allowing 5 hits and striking out 4.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Hoyle said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Roman Arena in Cincinnati. Slated to start are Edgar Blaney for the New York Knickerbockers and Roscoe Brockman for the the Cincinnati Packers.
