Almost There: New York On Cusp of World Series Triumph After 2-1 Win
The New York Knickerbockers moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the visiting Cincinnati Packers at Washington Square Park by a score of 2-1. Knickerbockers right-hander Hamilton Hoyle was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 9 innings of 7-hit ball. The win gives the Knickerbockers a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 World Series.

Hoyle was in the zone all game. He frustrated Cincinnati hitters while giving the Knickerbockers 9 innings of quality work. Hoyle threw 125 pitches, allowing 7 hits and getting 3 punchouts.

Hoyle called the win "a collective effort."
