World Series Game 1 Victory for Rutherford and Brooklyn
The Brooklyn Bluebirds started the World Series in style today, downing the visiting Detroit Wolverines at Flatbush Park by a score of 4-2 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Bluebirds right-hander Brock Rutherford was named player of the game after he threw 9 innings of 3-hit ball.

Rutherford delivered a quality start for Brooklyn. The 6' 2" right-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits over 9 innings of work.

"We're happy," Rutherford told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow in Brooklyn. The scheduled starters for the game are Hector Healey for the Detroit Wolverines and Hokey Lancaster for the the Brooklyn Bluebirds.
