Pivotal Game 5 Goes to
Host Explorers, 3-2 |
The St.
Louis Explorers moved to within one game of
the Round 2 today, downing the Brooklyn
Bluebirds 3-2 in a low-scoring, extra-inning
affair at Castle Point Field. Leading the way for
the Explorers was left-hander Pinkney
Quinlan, who was named player of the game
after he threw 11 innings allowing 2 runs. The win
gives the Explorers a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-7
World Series.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th
inning, when St. Louis catcher Morris
Close, facing Clay
Baldwin, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It
gave the Explorers the 3-2 win.
"Good win for us, tough loss for them," said Close.
Game 6 is set to be played Tuesday at Flatbush Park.
Slated to start are Hampton
Bunker for St. Louis and Hermann
Logan for Brooklyn.
