Quakers Win to Extend
Series Lead to 2-0 |
When the stakes were high, Clay
Easton raised his game to match.
The right-handed Easton turned in a stellar
performance in Game 2 of the World Series today,
pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead
the Philadelphia
Quakers to victory. He allowed 6 hits and
struck out 3. The win gave Philadelphia a 2-0 lead
over the Cincinnati
Packers in the best-of-7 series.
Had Vincent
Wellington not delivered a key base hit in the
top of the eighth, the outcome might have been
different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd
and 3rd, Wellington hit a 2-run single. That made
the score 3-2, in favor of the Quakers.
Easton told a Philadelphia News reporter that he was
"more than satisfied" with the win.
The next game is set to be played Saturday, October
7th, 1922. The scheduled starters for the game are Russell
Quick for the Cincinnati Packers and Leon
Hawkins for the the Philadelphia Quakers.
