World Series Game 1 Victory for Rutherford and St. Louis
The stakes were high. Brock Rutherford was ready.

The right-hander turned in a performance for the ages at Castle Point Field today, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the St. Louis Explorers to victory in Game 1 of the World Series. Rutherford held the New York Knickerbockers to 3 hits and no walks, while striking out 9. The win got the best-of-7 series off to a good start for St. Louis, which now leads 1-0.

Rutherford earned the win, going 9 strong innings for St. Louis. The right-hander allowed just 3 hits, while striking out 9. New York hitters had little success against him.

"I was determined to go the distance," said Rutherford.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow in St. Louis. Slated to start are Naman Futch for the New York Knickerbockers and Hampton Bunker for the the St. Louis Explorers.
