Explorers Clip Knickerbockers 3-2 in World Series Contest
Brock Rutherford was not ready to let the World Series end.

With the St. Louis Explorers backed into a corner, the right-handed Rutherford held off the New York Knickerbockers. He took player of the game honors after he threw 9 innings of 5-hit ball. The win cuts the series deficit for the Explorers to 3-2 in the best-of-7 series.

Rutherford was in the zone all game. He frustrated New York hitters while giving the Explorers 9 innings of quality work. Rutherford threw 128 pitches, allowing 5 hits and getting 4 punchouts.

"I was determined to go the distance," said Rutherford.

Game 6 is set to be played Tuesday, October 12th, 1926 at Castle Point Field. Slated to start are Edgar Blaney for New York and Hampton Bunker for St. Louis.
