The New York Knickerbockers ignited a huge celebration as they beat the St. Louis Explorers 9-1 to win the World Series.

New York won the series 4-2, capturing the title for the 9th time.

"We stepped it up at the right time, and now we're the champs," said New York manager . "It's a great feeling."

The champs finished the regular season 103-55 and claimed first place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division.

In the jubilant clubhouse after the decisive game, series MVP and second baseman Doc Moore said the Knickerbockers have "great fans and they deserve this."

"I am so happy for our city right now," he said.
