Almost There: New York On
Cusp of World Series Triumph After 6-1 Win
|
The New
York Knickerbockers moved to within one game
of the Round 2 today, downing the St.
Louis Explorers on the road at Castle Point
Field by a score of 6-1. Knickerbockers right-hander
Martin Butt
was named player of the game after a strong outing
in which he threw 9 innings of 3-hit ball. The win
gives the Knickerbockers a 3-1 advantage in the
best-of-7 World Series.
Butt was effective against the Explorers, seldom
allowing a hard-hit ball. The right-hander limited
St. Louis to just 1 run on 3 hits over 9 innings.
"We lost," St. Louis manager said later. "We'll deal
with it. The series isn't over."
Game 5 is scheduled for tomorrow at Castle Point
Field. Slated to start are Edgar
Blaney for the New York Knickerbockers and Brock
Rutherford for the the St. Louis Explorers.
