Pivotal Game 5 Goes to
Host Explorers, 4-2 |
The St.
Louis Explorers moved to within one game of
the Round 2 today, downing the visiting New
York Knickerbockers at Castle Point Field by a
score of 4-2. Explorers right-hander Brock
Rutherford was named player of the game after
a strong outing in which he threw 8 innings of 7-hit
ball. The win gives the Explorers a 3-2 advantage in
the best-of-7 World Series.
Rutherford, the St. Louis right-hander, went 8.1
innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits. He
collected 10 strikeouts.
"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said
Rutherford.
Game 6 is set to be played Tuesday at Knickerbocker
Stadium in New York. The scheduled starters for the
game are Hermann
Logan for the St. Louis Explorers and Naman
Futch for the the New York Knickerbockers.
