St. Louis Breaks Through for First Win in World Series; Now Trails 2-1
The St. Louis Explorers have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Brooklyn Bluebirds, winning 3-2 at Castle Point Field today. Explorers right-hander Brock Rutherford was named player of the game after he threw 9 innings of 8-hit ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Explorers to 2-1 in the best-of-7 World Series.

Had Matt Rooney not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Rooney hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Explorers.

Rutherford told a St. Louis Daily reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow. Slated to start are Puritan Ballou for the Brooklyn Bluebirds and Boyle Slocum for the the St. Louis Explorers.
