Road Win Lifts Pittsburgh
to 3-2 Lead in World Series

Game 5 was big. So was Elmer
Deaton.
The Pittsburgh
starter rose to the occasion at Knickerbocker
Stadium today, earning player of the game honors
after leading the Industrials to a crucial 3-0
victory over the New
York Knickerbockers. Deaton threw 9 innings of
shutout ball as the Industrials won on the road to
seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 World Series.
Deaton gave Pittsburgh a solid start. The
right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits over 9
innings.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the
next one," said Deaton.
The next game is set to be played Tuesday, October
13th, 1931 in Pittsburgh. Slated to start are Edgar
Blaney for the New York Knickerbockers and Jack
Smith for the the Pittsburgh Industrials.
