Industrials,
Knickerbockers Play 10 to Settle Game 1, Pittsburgh
Now Leads Series 1-0 |
The Pittsburgh
Industrials started the World Series in
dramatic fashion today, stealing Game 1 from the New
York Knickerbockers in a walk-off in the 10th
inning. Pittsburgh took the 2-1 win thanks in large
part to a good day from starter Elmer
Deaton. The right-hander threw 10 innings of
8-hit ball in the win, which gave the Industrials a
1-0 lead to start the best-of-7 series.
Late in the game, first baseman Ron
Ezzell had a big at-bat for Pittsburgh. In the
bottom of the tenth, he hit a run-scoring single off
Ben Mills.
The play gave the Industrials a 2-1 lead.
"Our guys just had that look of determination," said
winning manager .
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at
Allegheny Field in Pittsburgh. The scheduled
starters for the game are Lowry
Hopkins for the New York Knickerbockers and Jack
Smith for the the Pittsburgh Industrials.
