New York Breaks Through
for First Win in World Series; Now Trails 2-1
|
The New
York Knickerbockers have closed some of the
gap between themselves and the series-leading Pittsburgh
Industrials, winning 5-1 at Knickerbocker
Stadium today. Knickerbockers right-hander Jack
Loiselle was named player of the game after he
threw 8 innings allowing 1 run. The win cuts the
deficit facing the Knickerbockers to 2-1 in the
best-of-7 World Series.
New York left fielder Hal
Scarlet contributed to the cause with a single
in the bottom of the third. For the game, Scarlet
was 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk.
"If we don't win this series, nobody will be able to
say I didn't do enough," Loiselle told reporters
after the contest.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at
Knickerbocker Stadium in New York. The scheduled
starters for the game are Eddie
DeBuhr for Pittsburgh and King
Thomas for New York.
