Road Win Lifts Pittsburgh
to 3-2 Lead in World Series
|
Game 5 was big. So was Elmer
Deaton.
The Pittsburgh
starter rose to the occasion at Knickerbocker
Stadium today, earning player of the game honors
after leading the Industrials to a crucial 4-3
victory over the New
York Knickerbockers. Deaton threw 9 innings
allowing 3 runs as the Industrials won on the road
to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 World Series.
Mel Hunt,
who is a two-time All-Star, aided the Pittsburgh
cause with a 2-run single in the top of the third.
For the game, the second baseman was 3-4 with 3
singles. He drove in 2 runs.
"It's true for every sport, I think, but the
playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in
and get hot," Pittsburgh manager told BNN after the
win. "We took care of the first part and now we're
just working on the second."
Game 6 is scheduled for Tuesday, October 16th, 1934
in Pittsburgh. Slated to start are Lowry
Hopkins for the New York Knickerbockers and Jack
Smith for the the Pittsburgh Industrials.
