Rutherford Handcuffs Knickerbockers, Explorers Seize 3-2 Advantage in World Series
The St. Louis Explorers moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the New York Knickerbockers on the road at Knickerbocker Stadium by a score of 6-4. Explorers right-hander Brock Rutherford was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 9 innings allowing 4 runs. The win gives the Explorers a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-7 World Series.

Gene Metcalf hit a 2-run triple off Will Anderson in the top of the seventh, which put the Explorers in front, 6-4. Metcalf had 2 singles, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 3 for 5.

"It feels good to get this one," Metcalf told the St. Louis Times.

The next game is scheduled for Tuesday, October 19th, 1937 at Castle Point Field. The scheduled starters for the game are Lowry Hopkins for the New York Knickerbockers and George Culver for the the St. Louis Explorers.
