Road Win Lifts New York to
1-0 Lead in World Series |
The World Series got off to a
quiet start today, with the traveling New
York Knickerbockers taking a low-scoring 2-1
win over the host Pittsburgh
Industrials. New York right-hander Wes
Lee was marvelous at Allegheny Field and was
named player of the game. The Knickerbockers now
hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Bert Carter
aided the New York cause with a run-scoring
sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth. For the game,
the left fielder drove in one run.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some
opportunities," said New York manager .
Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow. The scheduled
starters for the game are Charlie
Schmidt for New York and Frederic
Isaac for Pittsburgh.
