The New York Knickerbockers got a great start from 38-year-old right-hander Lowry Hopkins, who earned player of the game honors today as New York won the contest 5-1 at Allegheny Field. Hopkins threw 9 innings of 5-hit ball in the win, which allowed the New York to grab a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Hopkins delivered a quality start for New York. The 6' 4" right-hander allowed 1 run on 5 hits over 9 innings of work.

"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Hopkins told reporters after the game.

Game 3 is set to be played Friday, October 13th, 1939. Slated to start are Frederic Isaac for the Pittsburgh Industrials and Charlie Schmidt for the the New York Knickerbockers.
