Road Win Lifts New York to 2-1 Lead in World Series
When the stakes were high, Art Weir raised his game to match.

The right-handed Weir turned in a stellar performance in Game 3 of the World Series today, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the New York Knickerbockers to victory. He allowed 8 hits and struck out 2. The win gave New York a 2-1 lead over the St. Louis Explorers in the best-of-7 series.

Ollie Gillet's at-bat in the top of the fourth inning was a big one for New York. Coming to bat with no one out, runners on 1st and 2nd and New York leading 1-0, the third baseman hit a run-scoring single.

"We'll savor this win," Gillet told the New York Daily News, "then get ready for the next game."

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Castle Point Field in St. Louis. The scheduled starters for the game are Harry Miller for New York and Dave Holt for St. Louis.
