When the stakes were high, Alex Geary raised his game to match.

The right-handed Geary turned in a stellar performance in Game 2 of the League Championship Series today, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the Philadelphia Quakers to victory. He allowed 6 hits and struck out 6. The win gave Philadelphia a 2-0 lead over the Pittsburgh Industrials in the best-of-7 series.

Geary, who was born in Furnessville, Indiana, threw 120 pitches over 9 innings, while allowing 1 earned run.

"There was a kid in the stands with a sign that said 'Philadelphia Quakers (probably) 1946 World Series Champions'," Geary told reporters after the game. "I told him, 'Premature, but I like the confidence.'"

Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Allegheny Field. Slated to start are Jackie Gregory for Philadelphia and Elmer Deaton for Pittsburgh.
