Empires, Seagulls Play 10
to Settle Game 2, New York Now Leads Series 2-0
|
A big day at the plate from
center fielder Les
George was not enough to keep the New
York Empires from extending their lead in the
League Championship Series. The Empires topped
George and the San
Francisco Seagulls 6-4 at Mission Field today
in Game 2, and now hold a 2-0 edge in the best-of-7
series. George was 3 for 4 with a triple, 2 singles,
and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once and
was named player of the game in the loss.
Jim Breslow's
hit in the top of the tenth was a game-changer. With
one out, he rapped a slider from Al
Baker for a run-scoring single. It put New
York in front, 5-4.
"We were able to get some things going offensively,"
said Breslow.
The next game is scheduled for Friday in New York.
Slated to start are Mike
Booth for the San Francisco Seagulls and Howie
Barth for the the New York Empires.
