San Francisco Takes League
Championship Series in Deciding Game
|
The thrill of victory and the
agony of defeat were on full display tonight at
Mission Field as the League Championship Series
stretched to the final game.
It was the San
Francisco Seagulls feeling the thrill of
victory, with a 3-0 win over the New
York Empires, who were feeling the devastation
of coming up short in their quest to make the World
Series.
"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said New
York manager Pete Grassi. "Congratulations to San
Francisco, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy
about anything that transpired here tonight."
Instrumental in the 4-3 series win was left fielder
Robert Bolen,
who was named MVP. He hit .448 with a .543 on-base
percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 8 RBI and
scored 1 runs.
"We've got the most important stat of all and that's
this final win -- that's the one that matters," he
said.
The San Francisco
Seagulls will play against the Philadelphia
Quakers in the next round. Philadelphia won
their series against the Pittsburgh
Industrials 4 games to 1. The World Series
schedule will be announced after the League
Championship Series finishes. |
