Almost There: Philadelphia
On Cusp of WS Triumph After 5-2 Win
|
The Philadelphia
Quakers moved to within one game of the Round
3 today, downing the visiting San
Francisco Seagulls at Penn's Landing Park by a
score of 5-2. Quakers right-hander Alex
Geary was named player of the game after a
strong outing in which he threw 8 innings of 6-hit
ball. The win gives the Quakers a 3-1 advantage in
the best-of-7 World Series.
Lee Underwood
aided the Philadelphia cause with a 2-run home run
in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the
center fielder was 1 for 5 with a home run. He drove
in 2 runs and scored once.
"There was a kid in the stands with a sign that said
'Philadelphia Quakers (probably) 1946 World Series
Champions'," Underwood told reporters after the
game. "I told him, 'Premature, but I like the
confidence.'"
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Penn's
Landing Park in Philadelphia. Slated to start are Paul
Burke for the San Francisco Seagulls and Hugh
Zipp for the the Philadelphia Quakers.
