League Championship Series Game 1 Victory for Burke and San Francisco
The stakes were high. Paul Burke was ready.

The left-hander turned in a performance for the ages at Mission Field today, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the San Francisco Seagulls to victory in Game 1 of the League Championship Series. Burke held the New York Empires to 3 hits and no walks, while striking out 6. The win got the best-of-7 series off to a good start for San Francisco, which now leads 1-0.

Burke gave San Francisco a solid start. The left-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits over 9 innings.

"Paul was throwing free and easy," said San Francisco manager Al Borie.

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Mission Field. Slated to start are Norman Candler for New York and Ray Hayes for San Francisco.
