San Francisco Takes Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
Their bats were silent and San Francisco had a rookie on the mound. No problem.

On a day when the Seagulls struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 23-year-old starter Neil Meredith. The right-hander quieted the New York Empires at Queens Field to help San Francisco take the 3-2 decision and seize a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.

Ray Jones helped his team jump on top from the get-go. His first time up in the top of the first, he cranked a 2-run triple to give San Francisco a 2-0 lead.

"I'll be honest," said Meredith. "I didn't have much left in the tank."

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Queens Field. Slated to start are Paul Burke for the San Francisco Seagulls and Tom Green for the the New York Empires.
