Pivotal Game 5 Goes to
Host Empires, 6-2 |
The New
York Empires moved to within one game of the
World Series today, downing the visiting San
Francisco Seagulls at Queens Field by a score
of 6-2. Empires right-hander Jo-Jo
Lavelle was named player of the game after a
strong outing in which he threw 9 innings of 7-hit
ball. The win gives the Empires a 3-2 advantage in
the best-of-7 League Championship Series.
Harry Sova
aided the New York cause with a 2-run double in the
bottom of the third. For the game, the center
fielder went 2 for 4 with a double, while adding 2
RBI.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said
Lavelle.
Game 6 is scheduled for Tuesday, October 14th, 1947
at Mission Field. The scheduled starters for the
game are Mike
Higgins for New York and Neil
Meredith for San Francisco.
