Trench, Chicago Start World Series Strong with Home Win
The Chicago Traders started the World Series in style today, downing the visiting Boston Terriers at Union Field by a score of 9-3 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Traders first baseman Melbourne Trench was named player of the game after he was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3.

In the bottom of the fifth, Chicago third baseman Billy West had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and two out, West stroked a run-scoring single to left. It made the score 3-1, Chicago. For the game, he went 2-4 with 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once.

"The name of the game is scoring runs," West said. "We did a good job of that today."

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at Union Field. Slated to start are Jerry Sneed for the Boston Terriers and Eddie Germany for the the Chicago Traders.
