Boston Wins at Home to
Narrow Series Deficit to 3-2
|
The Boston
Terriers have closed some of the gap between
themselves and the series-leading Chicago
Traders, winning 5-2 at Atlantic Avenue
Grounds today. Terriers left-hander Jerry
Sneed was named player of the game after he
threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball. The win cuts the
deficit facing the Terriers to 3-2 in the best-of-7
World Series.
Jim Spencer,
who finished 5th in the AABC in slugging percentage
with .546 in 1949, chipped in for Boston with a
3-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the
game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with
1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 runs
batted in.
"Jerry is tough when he's hitting his spots," said
Boston manager Clark Anderson.
Game 6 is set to be played Tuesday, October 18th,
1949 at Union Field. Slated to start are John
Manders for the Boston Terriers and Dave
Keen for the the Chicago Traders.
