Almost There: Boston On
Cusp of LCS Triumph After 8-5 Win
|
Seattle
left fielder Tommy
Blanks pounded Boston
Terriers pitchers at Puget Field, but it was
not enough to keep the Emeralds from falling, 8-5 in
Game 4 of the League Championship Series. Blanks
went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while
scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 and was named player
of the game for his efforts, even as he saw the
Emeralds slip to a 3-1 deficit in the best-of-7
series.
Boston relied on the hitting of Jim
Spencer to pick up the win. The left fielder
ripped a bases-clearing triple in the top of the
sixth inning to put the Terriers on top, 7-5. For
the game, Spencer
had 1 triple and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"We're happy," Spencer told reporters after the win.
"When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat
every game like it could be your last."
Game 5 is scheduled for tomorrow at Puget Field. The
scheduled starters for the game are Gene
Tiberi for Boston and Hank
Tobey for Seattle.
