Home Loss Shrinks
Terriers' Series Lead to 3-2
|
Facing elimination, the Chicago
Traders were looking for a savior. For today,
at least, Dave
Keen delivered.
At Atlantic Avenue Grounds, the 25-year old pitched
a game for the ages to fend off the Boston
Terriers and help the Traders close their
deficit in the World Series. Keen threw a 9-inning,
complete-game shutout in the 3-0 Chicago win,
striking out 3 and allowing 8 hits. The Traders how
trail 2-3 in the best-of-7 series.
Keen, a native of East Syracuse, New York, was
dealing all game. He kept Boston hitters
off-balance, while giving the Traders 9 quality
innings. Keen threw 142 pitches, allowing 8 hits and
striking out 3.
"Things broke our way today and that's great,"
Traders manager Winston Tinker said. "It's
important, though, to stay focused and not pat
yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."
Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday, October 22nd, 1953
at Union Field. Slated to start are Ben
McHargue for Boston and Ken
Amison for Chicago.
