Home Field Advantage: Jones, New York Open World Series with Win
The New York Knickerbockers started the World Series in style today, downing the visiting New York Empires at Knickerbocker Stadium by a score of 7-5 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Knickerbockers third baseman Bob Jones was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3.

Jones had a consequential at-bat in the bottom of the second for the Knickerbockers. Coming up with runners on 1st and 2nd and New York trailing 1-0, he hit a 3-run home run.

"We played hard and won," said Jones. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'

Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Bob Ott for the New York Empires and Doug Leonard for the the New York Knickerbockers.
