Knickerbockers Win to Extend Series Lead to 2-0
The New York Knickerbockers got a strong performance from pitcher John Ambrose, who stymied the visiting New York Empires en route to a win, 6-1, in Game 2 of the World Series today. The Empires could never get a bead on the right-handed Ambrose, who threw 7 innings of shutout ball. The Knickerbockers now hold a 2-0 in the best-of-7 series.

In his 109-pitch effort, Ambrose allowed no runs on 3 hits over 7.2 innings. He walked 2 and struck out 2.

"We have been clicking right from the start of this series, so our mission statement at the moment is just don't tinker with anything," New York manager William Bowen told reporters.

Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at Queens Field in New York. Slated to start are Doug Leonard for the New York Knickerbockers and Charlie Lambert for the the New York Empires.
