Series with Win |
The San
Francisco Seagulls started the League
Championship Series in style today, downing the
visiting New York
Empires at Mission Field by a score of 4-3 to
stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Seagulls first baseman Ricky
Plancarte was 2 for 3 with a home run. He
drove in 3 runs and scored once.
The game turned with one out in the bottom of the
fourth when Plancarte, who was drafted in the 2nd
round of the 1951 draft, hit a 3-run home run. It
propelled the Seagulls into the lead, 4-2.
"We'll savor this win," Plancarte told the San
Francisco Daily News, "then get ready for the next
game."
Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow. The scheduled
starters for the game are Charlie
Lambert for New York and Joe
Shannon for San Francisco.
