Host Empires Drop Pivotal Game 5, Now Trail Series 3-2
The San Francisco Seagulls defeated the New York Empires, 12-10 in Game 5 of the League Championship Series today. A big contributor was third baseman Randy Paterson, who went 3 for 5 with a home run and a triple. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4. The win moves San Francisco into a 3-2 lead in the series.

The Seagulls took a 8-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning. Facing New York hurler Tom Tattersall with no outs, Paterson hit a bases-clearing triple.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Al Borie.

Game 6 is scheduled for Tuesday, October 9th, 1956 at Mission Field. Slated to start are Charlie Lambert for New York and Joe Shannon for San Francisco.
