Seagulls Hammered by
Downs, Drop Game 5 to Bobcats
|
The Cleveland
Bobcats have closed some of the gap between
themselves and the series-leading San
Francisco Seagulls, winning 7-6 at Lakefront
Stadium today. Bobcats center fielder Jerry
Downs went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and
a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. The
win cuts the deficit facing the Bobcats to 3-2 in
the best-of-7 World Series.
Had Grammercy
Locke not delivered a key base hit in the
bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been
different. Instead, with two down and a runner on
1st, Locke hit a 2-run home run. That made the score
7-6, in favor of the Bobcats.
"We're happy," Downs told reporters after the win.
"When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat
every game like it could be your last."
The next game is scheduled for Thursday, October
18th, 1956 at Mission Field. The scheduled starters
for the game are Don
Young for the Cleveland Bobcats and Joe
Shannon for the the San Francisco Seagulls.
