Hawks Even With Bulls After Extra-Innings Win
|
The Chicago Hawks went the distance and then some at Independence Field today to drag themselves back into a tie with the Kansas City Bulls.
It took 10 innings to settle Game 2 of the World Series, but Chicago eventually took the 4-2 win behind the efforts of starting pitcher Bruce Elsner. Elsner threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball to aid the Chicago cause. The clubs are now tied 1-1 in their best-of-7 series.
Jerry Bischoff, the 8th overall pick in the 1954 draft, aided the Chicago cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth. For the game, the catcher was 2-4 with 2 singles.
Elsner said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
The next game is set to be played for Friday, October 15th , 1965 at Hyde Park Stadium in Chicago.
