Raucous Union Field Crowd Propels Traders to 3-0 Victory; Series Tied at 1
|
Trailing by a game in the Divisional Round, Bobby Peters was ready for his start.
The left-hander turned in a performance for the ages at Union Field, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the Chicago Traders to victory in Game 2 of the Divisional Round. Peters held the New York Knickerbockers to 3 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 12. The win brought Chicago into a 1-1 tie in the best-of-7 series.
Peters, the starting pitcher for Chicago, like a boss, imposed his will. The left-hander, who finished 2nd in the ABL in strikeouts with 244 in 1966, racked up 12 Ks, while allowing just 3 hits. Opposing hitters had trouble making good contact.
"Bobby made some big pitches when he needed to," said Traders manager Larry Link.
Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Knickerbocker Stadium in New York.
