Knickerbockers Clip Traders, 1-0, in DR Contest
|
Facing elimination, the New York Knickerbockers were looking for a savior. For today, at least, Dave Torre delivered.
At Knickerbocker Stadium, the 24-year-old pitched a game for the ages to fend off the Chicago Traders and help the Knickerbockers close their deficit in the Divisional Round. Torre threw a 9-inning, complete-game shutout in the 1-0 New York win, striking out 3 and allowing 6 hits. The Knickerbockers now trail 3-2 in the best-of-7 series.
Torre, who was born in Overland Park, Kansas, threw 93 pitches over 9 innings, while allowing no runs.
"Dave was dictating to their hitters," said New York manager William Bowen.
The next game is set to be played for Tuesday, October 7th , 1969 at Union Field in Chicago.
