At 36, Matt Broughton knows he may not have many playoff appearances left, so he was determined to make it memorable. Mission accomplished.
The Montreal Habitants pitcher threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball to help his club get past the Detroit Wolverines, 1-0, in Game 2 of the League Championship Series at Wolverine Field. With the win, Montreal moves into a 1-1 tie in the best-of-7 series.
Broughton earned the win, going 7.1 strong innings for Montreal. The native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, allowed just 3 hits, while striking out 7. Detroit hitters did next to nothing against the left-hander.
"Matt was pounding the zone," said Montreal manager Michel Alexandre Cauchon.
The next game is set to be played for Monday, October 13th , 1969 at LaSalle Stadium in Montreal.
