Closing In: San Diego Nears LCS With Dramatic Game 4 Win
The San Diego Captains got a strong game from starter Len Pates, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.

The Captains took the 4-3 win over the Denver Burros in Game 4 of the Divisional Round in a 9th inning walk-off. The win capped off a fine outing for the right-handed Pates. Pates threw 5.0 innings of 3-hit ball in the win, which gave the Captains a 3-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 25-year old shortstop Bob Blomstedt had a real shot to win the game. Denver pitcher Bart Dunsley was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Blomstedt hit a run-scoring single. The Captains had a walk-off triumph.

"Len throwing strikes, pounding the zone, that is exactly what you want to see," said San Diego manager Joe Mack.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at San Diego Sporting Complex in San Diego.
