Closing In: San Diego Nears LCS With Dramatic Game 5 Win
|
Game 5 was big. So was Mark Pike.
In leading San Diego to a crucial 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Industrials at San Diego Sporting Complex, the San Diego starter rose to the occasion, tossing 7 good innings. Pike threw 7.0 innings allowing 4 runs as the Captains defended their home field to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 Divisional Round.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when San Diego pinch hitter Ron Byrd, facing Bob Cole, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Captains the 5-4 win.
"This place was electric at the end," Pike said.
Game 6 is scheduled for Tuesday at Allegheny Field in Pittsburgh.
