Host Generals Drop Pivotal Game 5, Now Trail Series 3-2
|
Game 5 was big. So was Juan Rodriguez.
The Detroit starter rose to the occasion at Atlantic Station Field, leading the Wolverines to a crucial 4-3 victory over the Atlanta Generals. Rodriguez threw 7.0 innings allowing 3 runs as the Wolverines won on the road to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 Divisional Round.
Detroit used a clutch at-bat from Duane Simmons to capture the win. The third baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Wolverines ahead, 3-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Simmons. "You've got to get results."
The next game is set to be played for Tuesday, October 5th , 1971 at Wolverine Field in Detroit.
