New York left fielder Ron Freeman pounded Pittsburgh Industrials pitchers at Allegheny Field, but it was not enough to keep the Knickerbockers from falling, 8-7, in Game 1 of the Divisional Round. Freeman was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3, though he couldn't keep the Knickerbockers from slipping to a 1-0 deficit in the best-of-7 series.

Gary Tavares drove in one run against the Knickerbockers. With the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, he hit a sacrifice fly that put Pittsburgh in front, 8-7.

"We came out aggressive," said Industrials manager Vincent Wicker. "We came out swinging the bats."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Allegheny Field in Pittsburgh.
